Simple Valentines Heart Card for Kids

With Valentine's day fast approaching, this week we have been having some fun with the kids making cards for our friends and family. Why don't you join us in making a card for your loved one this year, it adds that personal touch - making it more special than a standard shop brought card!

Simple Heart Pom Pom Design

We started with a simple heart design, as let's face it whenever we think of Valentine's, we think of love and what better way of saying

'I Love You', than with a heart!

This design is cute and easy, yet very effective and most people would have a little craft box with all the materials you need just laying around the home!

What you'll need;

  • 2 x white card or paper (A4 size)

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Pom Pom's (any colours and size, but we used pink and red mix of sizes)

  • Thread, string, ribbon or wool (any colours, but we used red and pink embroidery thread).

Method;

  1. Take both pieces of card, and fold them in half (portrait way, folding down).

  2. Get one of the pieces of card and with the fold along the top, draw a heart on it .

  3. Cut the heart out of the card (being sure to just cut the heart shape, keeping the rest of the card as a border!).

  4. Get the second piece of card, and cut it along the fold.

  5. Slide the cut piece of card underneath the heart, and draw around the heart shape, so you have a heart on the piece of cut card.

  6. Take the piece of cut card (with the heart drawing on it) and put glue all over the heart shape, ensuring you also glue approx 2cm's outside the heart!

  7. Now using the thread (ribbon, string or wool etc) glue the thread down from one side of the heart to the other and back again, switching colours until you have covered as much of the heart as required.

  8. Now take the folded cut out heart card, and on the inside of the card, with the fold at the top and the card coming towards you glue all the way around the heart - right to the edges and corners!

  9. Take the card containing the thread and stick this to the glued card, so the colours show through the heart shape.

  10. Now it's time to decorate the heart, glueing pom pom's all the way around the edge of the heart shape. Be sure to stick them tight!

  11. Let the glue dry for a little while, and ta da - you're done! Easy peasy!

Feel free to decorate as much as required, maybe add a cute little bow, or write the person's name, or Happy Valentines on the design. We kept our's simple, as it was already beautiful enough! Have fun!
