RIP Rice Painting

Any one else running out of ideas to keep the little ones amused? We feel your pain!

We thought the worst of this pandemic was over but it seems as the weeks continue the fear of a further lock down could be inevitable.

Having almost exhausted all of our #fun at home ideas, we put our heads together to find a new fun, easy and cheap activity to stop our little Raindropz climbing the walls and driving us to insanity, and of course with it being October, we decided to incorporate some spooky #halloween fun into the mix.

With our little munchkins being at completely different stages of their lives, Billy being 3 and Olivia being 10, we needed to think of a fun idea that would occupy them both. This little activity seemed to work a treat, so we thought we'd share it with you guys. Enjoy!

We can't believe we've only just discovered this fun and simple craft. You'll only need a few materials, most of which you'll more than likely have in the kitchen cupboard. This activity kept our mini humans occupied for hours as they were mesmerised by the salt turning into colour and their picture coming to life.

Materials needed;

  • Pencil and Paper

  • Rice or Table Salt (we opted for rice as it's a little less messy)

  • Liquid Glue

  • Watercolour Paints and Paint Brushes

Method:

Step 1: Using your pencil, create your picture. We decided to draw a #pumpkin, a #ghost and a #witch and added googley eyes for extra fun.

Step 2: Help your little ones squeeze glue over all of the pencil lines of your drawing.

Step 3: Sprinkle the design with salt until it's covered and then shake away any excess.

Step 4: Using your water colour paints (if you don't have watercolour paints, simply mix some food colouring with a few drops of water), let your little one dip their paintbrush into the paint and have them gently touch over all of the salt covered glue. Next watch their excited expression as the vibrant colours start to bring their picture magically to life.

We'd love to hear how you and your little ones found this activity and see the end results. Please share them on Instagram using #raindropznroses as we'll be choosing our favourite and gifting a special #halloween treat to our lucky winner. And please don't forget to follow @raindropznroses on Instagram and Facebook.

Thanks for reading Raindropz,

Sending you Love and Magical Fairy Dust xoxo
