Trick or Treat In Lockdown

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

If like us you're feeling a little uneasy about the #halloween festivities this year and are uncertain as to whether you'll be able to venture out for some traditional #trickortreating fun, then fear not, because we've pulled together two fang-tastically fun ways to have some #trickortreat fun without leaving the sofa!

1: Pop A Pumpkin

We spend a lot of time at #raindropznroses designing new and exciting balloon displays, and although this one was probably the simplest we've ever created, it was just as enjoyable. This game is easy, cheap and so much fun for all the family, so read on if you want to have some BOO-lloon popping fun!

Our house was full of giggles and excitable clapping playing this game. Give it a try, we promise the whole family will love it and you'll have so much fun creating it too.

Materials needed;

  • Large White Cardboard (or simply an old large cardboard box that's in the recycling)

  • Orange Balloons (as many as required to create your pumpkin, we used 14)

  • Balloon Pump (if you have one to save your breathe, but not a must)

  • Any kind of party confetti or sequins (or even teeny tiny bits of torn up coloured paper)

  • Glue Dots or Double Sided Tape

  • Cocktail Sticks for popping (we used cocktail stirrers to save fingers getting pricked)

  • Treats of your choice (they need to be small to easily fit inside your balloons)

Method:

Step 1: Draw an outline of your #pumpkin on the large white cardboard. We added a

Pop-A-Pumpkin sign and green stem for added effect. You can get as creative as you like, adding glitter, goggly eyes etc.

Step 2: Fill your #balloons with confetti and treats. If you have a funnel to help you insert them that's great, if not you can do it by hand by pulling open the opening of the balloon, it's a little trickier but easy enough. Remember to leave a few balloons empty, this is all part of the fun of the game.

Step 3: Blow up the balloons, secure with a knot and attached each one to the board using a glue dot (or double sided tape). Remember to follow the template you drew earlier to ensure you have a finished pumpkin effect.

Step 4: Give your little ones a large cocktail stirrer for #popping. We used these to ensure our little ones could #pop away without any injuries.

Step 5: Pop, Pop and Pop some more!

2: Select A Spider

Walking up the garden path, we spy a yummy sweet, #halloween is here again, knock knock #trickortreat.

We had too much fun creating this game, the treats were yummy and the tricks were funny, and what's more it took our minds away from these anxious and uncertain times to transport us into a world full of laughter that lingered and a lot of sticky fingers!

What you'll need;

  • Large Black Cardboard (or simply an old large cardboard box that's in the recycling)

  • Black Tissue Paper

  • Paper Cups (we choose black)

  • Elastic Bands

  • Hot Glue Gun (or strong glue)

  • Pencil, Scissors and any craft items needed to create a pop-tastic pumpkin

  • Something circular to draw around (we used a bowl from the kitchen cupboard)

  • Tricks and Treats of your choice

Method:

Step 1: Draw the outline of your #halloweenspider on a piece of large black cardboard. We decided to add legs and #gogglyeyes for added effect.

Step 2: Take a few sheets of your tissue paper and fold them in half, and then in half again to make four layers (using a few sheets together will allow you to create all of your circles at one time). Trace round your circle on the tissue paper and then using scissors, cut it out. Remember your circle needs to be larger than the circle of your paper cup (ours was roughly 5 inches).

Step 3: Fill your cups with various #tricks and #treats. As well as nice treats, we included some fun tricks, including gooey spaghetti worms, pretend spiders webs, and sticky monster slime.

Step 4: Place one of your tissue circles on top of a paper cup and secure with an elastic band. Repeat this on all cups.

Step 5: Using your hot glue gun (be super careful they get very hot), apply glue to the bottom of your cup. Stick each cup onto your cardboard, ensuring you are sticking them inside the template you drew as the cups will be forming the shape of the #spiders body.

Step 7: Play the game! Simply stick a finger (or your entire hand if they're tiny like Billy's) into the cup and have fun discovering whether you've picked a trick or treat.

We hope you've enjoyed this post and it's given you some fun inspiration to create extra excitement this Halloween. As always, we love hearing how you and your little ones found this activity so please let us know in the comments below, and don't forget to share any snaps with us on our Instagram page using hashtag #raindropznroses.

Until next time Raindropz,

Sending you Love and Magic Fairy Dust xoxo
